How to Move/Migrate SharePoint Site/Web Application from 2013 to 2016 From one SharePoint Farm to An Other SharePoint Farm

    Pro Sharepoint Migration

    Solution:

    1. Make sure your site is no longer allowed to have new data, because if new data is added during migration the data will not be moved.
      1. You two options a) Bring your site down b) if a is not possible then put your site into read only mode.
    2. Take the backup of the All the data bases belong to the application and move then to target SQL Server.
    3. Apply the permissions to the Users under which your APP Pool will run for i.e. SP2013ServiceAccount.
      1. Give Database Owner permissions
      2. Security Admin Permissions
    4. Create the Web Application with Same Port and configuration for example if anonymous access was enabled on the source do the same on target and choose the same port as well.
    5. Open PowerShell as administrator and run below script: edit it according to your needs.

    Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell

    Test-SPContentDatabase -Name WSS_Content_YourWebAPP_2025 -WebApplication http://myserver:2025 /

    Mount-SPContentDatabase -Name WSS_Content_YourWebApp_2025 -WebApplication http://myserver:2025 /

    6. Once the commands run successfully the out put will show the Site Collection count as 1 or any expected count but it should not be 0, 0 means the Mount is not successful, 1 or more mean it was successful.
